If you want the full picture of every GTA 6 weapon spotted so far, this is it. We went through both trailers, the official screenshots, and the 2022 leaked footage frame by frame, then matched each gun and piece of gear to its real-world inspiration. Handguns, shotguns, SMGs, rifles, snipers, heavy weapons, melee, throwables, and the equipment slots sitting next to them. No “top 10,” no padding, just the arsenal as we currently know it.
One thing needs to be said plainly before any of this: Rockstar has not published an official weapons list for GTA 6. Everything below is built from Trailer 1 (December 2023), Trailer 2 (May 2025), official screenshots, and the September 2022 leaked development footage. When we say a weapon is “spotted,” we mean it clearly appears in official Rockstar-released media. When we say “rumored,” it means the only source is that 2022 leak, or community speculation with no trailer or screenshot backing it up. The leak footage is real and has held up well over time, but it was never meant to be seen, so we treat it as lower-confidence than anything Rockstar chose to put in a trailer. We would rather flag the shaky ones than pretend the whole list is confirmed.
Quick answer: how many weapons are in GTA 6?
Between trailer sightings, screenshots, and the leaked footage, community trackers and outlets have identified roughly 30-plus distinct weapons so far, spanning handguns, shotguns, SMGs, rifles, snipers, heavy weapons, melee tools, and throwables. That number will almost certainly grow before launch. GTA 5 shipped with more than 40 weapons and GTA Online kept adding to that for a decade, so treat 30-plus as the current floor, not the ceiling.

The new weapon wheel and carry limit
GTA 6’s inventory has apparently been redesigned along the lines of Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than GTA 5. In GTA 5, you could carry basically every weapon in the game on your body at once, tapping a wheel to flip between an entire arsenal with no real cost. PC Gamer and GTABase, both of whom have picked apart Trailer 2 frame by frame, describe GTA 6 moving away from that entirely. The wheel now splits into separate categories, roughly Weapons, Equipment, and Gear, toggled with a shoulder-button press similar to how RDR2 separated its own wheel.
The bigger change is the carry limit itself. Reporting around the game describes players being restricted to two rifles and two pistols carried on-body at any one time, with everything else you own kept in the trunk of your current vehicle rather than in an invisible pocket dimension. If that holds up at launch, it is a real departure from series norms. It means loadout choices actually matter before a job. Bringing an SMG and a shotgun to a heist means leaving the sniper rifle in the car, and if you ditch that car, you might be leaving your options behind with it.
This single detail is why we’re treating the category breakdown below as more than a checklist. In GTA 5, every gun you unlocked just piled onto the wheel forever. In GTA 6, apparently, you have to actually pick.
Handguns
Sidearms are the weapon class with the most trailer and screenshot confirmation, since both protagonists are shown carrying them constantly.
- Girardi ES9 (Beretta 92FS). Jason’s signature handgun, seen in his hand across both trailers and in official screenshots. Spotted.
- Klose K-17 (a Glock/SIG P320 hybrid design, with some outlets noting a Bersa Thunder 380 influence in the grip shape). Lucia’s preferred sidearm, and some reporting describes it supporting a full-auto fire mode, which would be new for a GTA pistol. Spotted.
- Heavy Pistol (M1911 variant). A classic GTA sidearm silhouette, visible in trailer and screenshot footage. Spotted.
- Morgan Revolver (Smith & Wesson Model 629). A big-frame revolver seen in official material. Spotted.
- Mustang .357 Revolver (Colt Python). A second, distinct revolver design from the Morgan, also spotted in trailer footage. Spotted.
- Nipper .38 (Taurus PT938, with some comparisons to the Bersa Firestorm). A compact backup pistol. Spotted.
- Pistol (Taurus PT92AF). The baseline sidearm shape that shows up repeatedly across scenes. Spotted.
Seven distinct handgun models is already more variety at this stage than GTA 5 had confirmed pre-launch, and that is before counting whatever tint and attachment variants Ammu-Nation ends up selling. The spread also tells you something about how Rockstar is designing this category: three revolvers and variants covering the big-frame Morgan and the sleeker Mustang .357, a compact backup option in the Nipper .38, and a baseline semi-auto in the standard Pistol, on top of the two protagonist-specific sidearms. That’s a properly varied lineup rather than five reskins of the same silhouette, which matches the more grounded, RDR2-influenced direction the whole combat system seems to be taking.
The claim that the Klose K-17 supports a full-auto configuration deserves a caveat of its own. If accurate, it would be unusual for a GTA handgun, since full-auto pistols have mostly been an attachment-driven rarity in past games rather than a stock feature. It’s plausible given how much emphasis Trailer 2’s Ammu-Nation ad puts on attachments and special configurations, but until Rockstar shows it in action, treat the “full-auto” detail as one step below the rest of the confirmed handgun list.
Shotguns
Shotguns show up mostly in the robbery and heist-adjacent scenes across the trailers.
- Pump Action Shotgun (Mossberg 590). Appears in robbery and heist scenes in official trailer footage. Spotted.
- Double Barrel Shotgun (Stoeger/IGA Longfowler). Only traced to the 2022 leaked footage so far, no trailer or screenshot sighting yet. Rumored.
Two shotguns is a thin category right now compared to cars or handguns, but shotguns have historically been one of the smaller weapon classes in every GTA game, so this tracks with past releases. GTA 5 launched with three base shotgun models before GTA Online started adding sawed-offs, combat shotguns, and heavier variants over the following years, so it would be a surprise if GTA 6 stayed at just two for its entire lifespan.
Both shotguns spotted so far lean toward the “classic American hunting and home-defense gun” look rather than anything tactical or military. The Mossberg 590 in particular is a pump-action workhorse that’s been a go-to prop in crime media for decades, and its appearance in robbery footage tracks with how Rockstar tends to hand out shotguns in scripted heist and home-invasion scenes rather than open street combat. The double-barrel design, if it holds up once we get more official footage, would fill the classic sawed-off role that GTA fans expect somewhere in the lineup.
SMGs and machine guns
This is where the heist fantasy really shows up on screen.
- SMG (Heckler & Koch MP5). Both Jason and Lucia are shown wielding this during a heist sequence in official footage, making it one of the more clearly confirmed weapons in the whole game. Spotted.
- Micro SMG (Mini Uzi). A small, easily concealed SMG spotted in trailer footage. Spotted.
- Compact SMG (Scorpion-style mini-SMG). A third, distinct SMG silhouette from the Micro SMG, also spotted. Spotted.
- Combat MG (M249 SAW-style light machine gun). Only sourced from the 2022 leak so far. Rumored.
Three SMGs confirmed through official media plus a leaked light machine gun gives this category real depth, and the MP5 in particular is shaping up to be a signature heist weapon the way it has been in a lot of Rockstar’s other output.
Rifles
The most frequently spotted weapon class across all footage released so far, full stop.
- Carbine Rifle (AR-15/HK416 style). This is the single most-seen weapon across every piece of GTA 6 media released to date. It shows up in robbery scenes, police shootouts, and a highway combat sequence. Spotted.
- Assault Rifle (AK-47 pattern). Shown with a suppressor in one shot, an extended mag in another, and what looks like a drum mag and custom finish elsewhere, suggesting the attachment system applies heavily to this weapon. Spotted.
- Carbine Rifle Mk II (a more modern AR-15 variant, distinct from the base Carbine Rifle). Sourced from the 2022 leak. Rumored.
- Service Carbine (M16 A1/A2 style). Also sourced from the leak. Rumored.
If you only remember one rifle name from this whole list, make it the Carbine Rifle. It is the closest thing GTA 6 has to a signature default rifle right now, based purely on how often it shows up on screen.
The Assault Rifle’s attachment variety is the single best piece of visual evidence we have for how deep the customization system might actually go. The same base AK-pattern rifle shows up with a suppressor in one scene, an extended magazine in another, and what looks like a drum magazine and a different finish elsewhere. That’s not Rockstar reusing an asset out of laziness. It reads as a deliberate showcase, the same rifle presented three or four different ways to signal that attachments change how a weapon looks and probably performs, not just a cosmetic skin swap.
As for the two leak-sourced rifles, the Carbine Rifle Mk II and the Service Carbine, both are visually close enough to the confirmed Carbine Rifle that some community trackers have debated whether they’re genuinely separate weapons or early, since-changed builds of the same gun caught mid-development in 2022 footage. Until Rockstar’s own marketing shows a clearly distinct silhouette for either one, we’re keeping them filed as rumored rather than promoting them to their own confirmed entries.
Sniper rifles
Long guns are represented across both bolt-action and semi-auto styles.
- Bolt Action Sniper (Remington 700 BDL). Spotted in official trailer and screenshot material. Spotted.
- Hunter Sniper (Arctic Warfare L96A1 style). A second, distinct bolt-action sniper silhouette. Spotted.
- Assault Sniper (M4A1 Block I style semi-auto marksman rifle). Sourced from the leak only. Rumored.
- An older leak also shows what appear to be an M14/M1A-pattern rifle and a Ruger 10/22-pattern rifle. Their in-game names are unknown, and this is leak-sourced only. Treat this as rumor, and a soft one at that, since we don’t even have names to attach to it yet.
Two confirmed sniper rifles plus a couple of leak-only marksman-style guns suggests Rockstar is keeping a fairly traditional split between slow, hard-hitting bolt guns and faster semi-auto options.
Heavy weapons
Explosive ordnance, the kind of thing you bring out when a job goes loud.
- RPG / Rocket Launcher (RPG-7 style). Spotted in official trailer footage. Spotted.
- Grenade Launcher (Milkor MGL style, visually similar to GTA 5’s version). Sourced from the 2022 leak. Rumored.
Not a huge category yet, but heavy weapons rarely get much trailer time in any GTA marketing cycle since they tend to spoil the more chaotic set pieces. Rockstar has historically saved rocket launchers and their equivalents for gameplay demos rather than cinematic trailers, since a well-placed explosion tends to overshadow the character and story beats a marketing trailer is actually trying to sell. Expect this category to grow noticeably once Rockstar puts out proper gameplay footage rather than trailer cuts, especially since heavy weapons are usually where GTA Online’s post-launch weapon drops focus first.
What isn’t on this list yet also matters. There’s no confirmed minigun, no confirmed railgun or sci-fi weapon of any kind, and nothing resembling the more over-the-top GTA Online heavy weapons like the Widowmaker or the homing launcher. GTA 6 so far reads as more grounded than GTA Online’s endgame arsenal, closer in tone to GTA 5’s base campaign than to the game modes that came after it.
Thrown weapons
Throwables cover both classic GTA staples and at least one new tool tied to the underwater combat system.
- Grenade (M61-style fragmentation grenade). Spotted in official trailer footage. Spotted.
- Molotov Cocktail / Fire Bottle. Spotted in official trailer footage. Spotted.
- Smoke Grenade (M18-style). Spotted in official trailer footage. Spotted.
- Flashbang. Sourced from the 2022 leak. Rumored.
- Golf Ball. A returning gag throwable from past GTA games, sourced from the leak. Rumored, but a fun one if it makes the cut.
- Speargun. It appears to be built for the underwater combat system confirmed for GTA 6, and it seems to function as both a real weapon and a throwable or melee tool underwater rather than fitting neatly into one bucket. Sourced from the leak only, so treat it as rumor for now, but it’s one of the more plausible leak items given how much attention underwater traversal has gotten elsewhere in the game’s reporting.
Melee weapons
The close-range toolkit leans on GTA’s usual household-object chaos, plus a proper combat knife.
- Knife, sometimes listed under the in-game designation UC-RB1. Spotted in official trailer and screenshot material. Spotted.
- Baseball Bat. A GTA melee staple, spotted in official footage. Spotted.
- Golf Club. Spotted in official footage. Spotted.
- Pool Cue. Spotted in official footage. Spotted.
- Crowbar. Spotted in official footage. Spotted.
- Hammer. Spotted in official footage. Spotted.
- Unarmed / fists. Always available, no sourcing needed.
Nothing shocking in this list, which is honestly reassuring. These are the same kind of blunt, improvised objects that have defined GTA melee combat for two decades, and Rockstar clearly isn’t trying to reinvent that wheel. What’s notable is what’s absent so far: no confirmed machete, no chainsaw, no nightstick, none of the sillier melee options GTA Online piled on over the years like the hatchet or the battle axe. That doesn’t mean they’re gone, it just means trailer footage hasn’t shown them yet, and melee weapons in general get even less trailer time than heavy weapons since they don’t photograph as dramatically as a car chase or a gunfight.
The UC-RB1 designation on the knife stands out too. Community trackers picked that label up from what looks like an internal or placeholder naming convention rather than a flashy in-fiction brand name the way “Girardi” or “Klose” are used for the pistols. If that naming pattern holds, it suggests some of GTA 6’s melee weapons might ship without the usual joke-brand treatment Rockstar gives its guns and cars, though that’s speculation more than anything else at this point.
Gear and equipment
These aren’t weapons, but they sit in the same combat kit and apparently form their own dedicated wheel category.
- Body Armor. Confirmed as its own inventory slot, providing damage protection the way it always has in GTA, though we don’t yet know if it’s tiered the way RDR2 handled certain defensive items.
- Health items, referenced as Painkillers or Health Kits sitting in their own inventory slot rather than being folded into a generic health system.
Both of these reportedly live in a separate Equipment or Gear category on the redesigned wheel, distinct from the Weapons category itself. That split matters for the same reason the two-rifle, two-pistol carry limit matters: it suggests Rockstar wants you thinking about your loadout in discrete categories rather than one giant undifferentiated pile of stuff, RDR2-style rather than GTA5-style.
Weapon customization and Ammu-Nation
Trailer 2 includes an in-fiction Ammu-Nation advertisement, and it is one of the most information-dense few seconds in the entire marketing campaign so far. Based on that ad and the reporting built around it, GTA 6’s customization system includes magazines, tints and liveries, and attachments covering foregrips, scopes and optics, rails, and muzzle devices, on top of special ammo types.
GTABase and TheGamer both describe this as a noticeably deeper system than GTA 5 ever had, closer to a Call of Duty-style attachment system bolted onto an RDR2-style grounded inventory. GTA 5’s gunsmith customization was mostly a short menu of fixed upgrade tiers. What’s being described here sounds more modular, with separate slots for different attachment types rather than a handful of preset packages.
The in-game Ammu-Nation ad itself name-checks broad categories rather than a full catalog: semi-auto pistols, shotguns, light machine guns, and military rifles among them. That lines up with Ammu-Nation returning as the primary legal gun retailer across Leonida, the way it has been in every mainline GTA since San Andreas.
Framing it as an in-fiction advertisement rather than a menu screen is itself a small but telling choice. GTA 5 sold guns through a fairly flat, functional shop interface. Putting the pitch inside a parody TV commercial suggests Rockstar wants weapon shopping to feel like part of the world’s satire rather than a pure system menu, the same way Ammu-Nation’s radio and billboard ads have always poked at gun culture and American advertising more broadly. If the finished game keeps that framing intact, buying a gun in GTA 6 might come with more of the same tongue-in-cheek commentary the series applies to everything else in its world.
None of this tells us exact prices, exact slot counts, or whether every weapon on this list will actually be purchasable at launch versus found or looted only. Ammu-Nation stock has varied by game and even by in-game state or city district in the past, so it’s reasonable to expect some regional variation across Leonida rather than one identical catalog everywhere.
Jason and Lucia’s signature sidearms
Just like the Vapid Creado is unmistakably Jason’s car, two handguns on this list are tied directly to a specific protagonist.
The Girardi ES9 is shown repeatedly as Jason’s go-to sidearm across trailer footage and screenshots, functioning as his equivalent of a signature weapon the way certain guns get tied to protagonists in other Rockstar games. The Klose K-17, meanwhile, is consistently shown as Lucia’s preferred pistol, and it’s also the one weapon on this entire list with a specific mechanical claim attached to it beyond just “she holds this gun”: some reporting describes it as capable of a full-auto fire configuration, which would set it apart from a standard semi-auto sidearm.
Neither of these is confirmed as an exclusive weapon in the sense of “only Jason can ever pick up the ES9.” It’s more that trailer editing has consistently paired each protagonist with one pistol, the same way editing choices paired Jason with his car early and often enough that it became the de facto answer before Rockstar ever said so directly.
Wrapping up the arsenal
Roughly 30-plus weapons identified so far, split across seven combat categories plus a new equipment wheel that limits what you can carry on your body at once. The headline change isn’t any single gun, it’s that carry limit and the RDR2-style category split, because it means the arsenal below stops being a checklist you unlock and forget, and starts being a set of choices you have to make before you leave the garage.
We’ll keep this updated as Trailer 3 and any pre-launch gameplay reveals add to it. FAQ
How many weapons are confirmed in GTA 6? Roughly 30-plus have been identified across handguns, shotguns, SMGs, rifles, snipers, heavy weapons, melee tools, and throwables, combining official trailer and screenshot sightings with the 2022 leaked footage. Rockstar hasn’t published an official count, and this number is expected to grow before launch.
Is the weapon wheel different from GTA 5? It appears to be, yes. Reporting describes a redesigned wheel split into Weapons, Equipment, and Gear categories, similar to how Red Dead Redemption 2 handled its inventory, rather than GTA 5’s single wheel holding every gun you owned.
Can you still carry every gun at once like in GTA 5? Reportedly not. GTA 6 is described as limiting players to two rifles and two pistols on-body at a time, with the rest of your arsenal stored in your vehicle’s trunk instead of an unlimited personal inventory.
What gun does Jason use? The Girardi ES9, based on the Beretta 92FS, is shown repeatedly as Jason’s signature handgun across trailer footage and screenshots.
What gun does Lucia use? The Klose K-17, a Glock/SIG P320-style pistol that some reporting says supports a full-auto fire mode, making it more than a straight reskin of Jason’s sidearm.
Is the underwater speargun real? It’s sourced only from the 2022 leaked footage so far, not from an official trailer or screenshot, so we’re treating it as a rumor. It lines up with the underwater combat system Rockstar has confirmed for GTA 6, which makes it plausible, but plausible isn’t the same as confirmed.
